有木有战报什么的啊?
I enjoy after-action reports and couldn't find another forum devoted to CoM, so I thought I would post this here. I'll start with just 1756 and if people respond, I'll post the rest (I'm through 1757 at this point).
Solo Clash of Monarchs Campaign
Fall 1756
The Austrians, Prussians, and Russians all select option A. The Austrians delay their attack, the Russians delay their entry, but Prussia decides to invade Saxony in order to forestall a likely Austrian attack in 1757. Frederick reasons that if war is inevitable, it would be better to set up a favorable position by the spring campaign season than passively await a coalition assault. The Prussian decision triggers the subsidies under the 1st Treaty of Versailles and causes the Holy Roman Empire and Saxony to join the Austrian camp.
Round 1
FoW: CS + SS attrition
Prussia
The Prussians purchase two supply actions, anticipating future sieges of Dresden and Pirna. Frederick also plays the invasion of Saxony card, allowing Prussian forces to march through several key Saxon fortresses.
Frederick’s main army of around 50,000 men takes Dessau and Leipzig, before marching on to Dresden to confront Rutowski’s Saxon army. The Saxons, foolishly, withdraw only 4,000 men into the Dresden fortress and try to withdraw to Pirna. Rutowksi’s flawed reasoning is that once at Pirna, he can withdraw enough of his command into Bohemia to avoid a crushing victory. Rutowski, however, is unable to withdraw and he is forced to meet Frederick’s army in battle.
1st Battle of Dresden
Frederick (4+ DRM): 25 SP; Die Result: 5D3; Losses: 1 Inf. SP
Rutowski (1 DRM): 7 SP; Die result: 1; Losses: 4 Inf. SP captured, 1 Cav step; Routed.
The result of battle at Dresden is a crushing Prussian victory. Prussia’s MW increases 1 and Austria’s drops 2. The Saxons retreat to Pirna.
A small Prussian force under Maurice occupies Torgau.
Austria
The Austrians are not surprised and almost pleased at Prussia’s decision to invade Saxony. Although the Austrian army is not prepared for a major invasion of Silesia in 1756, the Empress-Queen is hopeful that the entrance of France, the Empire, and Saxony into the war on Austria’s side will offset Frederick’s positional advantage if he is successful in conquering Saxony.
The Austrians play the Austrian mobilization card. Field Marshall Browne near Prague makes tentative plans to relieve Saxony and 10,000 men from Pressburg march to Zwittau.
The Saxon army in Pirna rallies from routed to demoralized.
Round 2
Prussia
The Prussians activate Frederick and lay siege to Dresden. A lucky breakthrough (roll of 6) forces the garrison to capitulate faster than Austria hoped. 4,000 Saxons become prisoners of war.
Austria
The Empress-Queen is successful in forcing Browne to confront Frederick in Saxony. The court’s reasoning is that if Austria can just blunt Frederick’s army, it might save Pirna from falling during the campaign season, which will slow down any Prussian invasion of Bohemia. Browne marches through Prague and leads the Austrian army to Dresden. Frederick is all too eager to offer battle.
2nd Battle of Dresden
Browne (3 DRM): 3 Line Cav, 1 Light Cav, 2 Lt Inf, 10 Inf SP, 3 Field; 22 SP; Die Result: 11, 4 D2; Losses: 3 Inf SP captured, 2 Inf SP, 1 Line step, Lacy captured, Routed;
Frederick (3 DRM): 4 Line Cav, 2 Hussar, 1 Lt Inf, 13 Inf SP, 1 Field; Die Result: 14, 6D4*; Losses: 3 SP, 1 Line Step, Keith wounded.
The Austrians are routed and retreat to Prague. Another crushing victory for Prussia reduces the Austrian MW by 2 and increases Prussia’s by 1. The Austrians spend 2 SA to add a rally +2 marker to Browne. The Saxons rally. Hadik and 5 SP move to Koniggratz.
Round 3
FoW: Desertion, A2, F4, I1, P4;
Prussia
Prussia plays the Saxon impressment card, increasing Frederick’s army by 5 SP. Maurice and 1 Hussar unit move to Dresden.
Austria
Austria plays the Loudon rising card, making Loudon the corps commander of the army forming at Koniggratz. Browne rallies his army. 2 SP from Wien move to Prague.
Round 4
FoW: KK Raids. Austria gains from 1 SA from Silesia.
Prussia
The Prussians activate Frederick and move to Pirna, where the Saxon army has been reduced to a halved cavalry and 1 SP. Rutowski withdraws into the fortress. Frederick lays siege.
Austria
The Austrians call up Imperial Auxiliaries. 10,000 new imperial infantry are added to the army at Nuremburg. Hadik moves to Prague, in case Frederick moves on the city.
Round 5
FoW: Desertion, S1.
Prussia
Frederick is activated and makes two attempts to take Pirna, both fail, but the siege progresses to +2. Unfortunately, the campaign season is over and Prussia has failed to occupy the key fortress, disgusting the Prussian king.
Austria
The Austrians purchase 3 SA and move the siege artillery in Wien to Brunn. They are content to await the entrance of France into the war.
Campaign Summary: The Austrians probably didn’t need to force a battle at Dresden, but the Hapsburgs believed that Browne would have a better chance of defeating Frederick than Prince Charles, the brother of Emperor Francis. Still, suffering two crushing defeats in the opening round of the war was unnecessary. For their own part, the Prussians should be disappointed that they didn’t take Pirna. This will force them to create a rather large secondary army to lay siege to the fortress in 1757. The troops needed for Pirna will be sorely missed in Silesia.
Winter Quarters 1756
FoW: Dies Irae causes Severe Weather.
Frederick winters in Dresden, while Keith returns from his injuries. Austria’s VP stand at -2, while Prussia is at 9.
New Year 1757
Prussia plays the Saxony despoiled card, giving them 12 thalers. Austria responds by playing Saxon desertions and 2 Saxon SP are added to the army in Pirna.
Diplomacy
Much to the Tsarina’s displeasure, the Russians put off operations until the fall. [Note: For some reason, this is listed as the historical option. However, the Russians began campaigning long before the fall in 1757 during the actual war.] France chooses to invade Hanover, which brings the Anglo-Hanoverians into the war.
Spring 1757
Recruitment
Prussian recruitment yields 21 Inf SP, 3 cavalry steps, and costs 8 thalers. Austria’s recruitment is much more fruitful, resulting in 27 new Inf SP, 4 Cav steps, and costs 10 thalers.
The Prussians demote Bevern and Maurice, replacing them with Lehwaldt and Robersnow. The Austrians are able to add Konigsegg, Arenberg, and Serbelloni to the field. Also, Charles becomes CiC and Daun assumes command at Olmutz. Zweibrucken becomes the imperial CiC.
Prussian Deployments
Dresden: Frederick, 4 Line Cav, 1 Hussar, 1 Light Inf, 22 Inf SP, 1 field artillery, and 1 siege artillery
Breslau: Schwerin, 2 Line Cav, 1 Hussar, 7 Inf SP, and 1 field artillery
Konigsberg: Ferdinand, 1 Hussar, and 1 Inf SP.
Dresden: Keith, 1 Hussar, 14 Inf SP, and 1 siege artillery.
Notes: The need to create a 15 SP force to siege Pirna means that there is effectively no army in East Prussia and only a small force in Silesia. This becomes even more important when the siege of Pirna drags on and almost all attrition and desertion casualties must be taken from Schwerin and Frederick.
Austrian deployments
Prague: Charles, Browne, 3 Line Cav, 1 Lt Cav, 2 Lt Inf, 24 Inf SP, 3 field artillery
Koniggratz: Loudon, 7 Inf SP
Olmutz: Daun, Serbelloni, 2 Line Cav, 11 Inf SP
Nuremberg: Zweibrucken, 1 Line Cav, 11 Inf SP (imperial force)
