I own AH, Mage Wars and Mage Knight;
I don't enjoy AH; I feel like I have no control over the outcome (too much dice and depending on other plays to help load up the chosen one on clue tokens to seal a given portal, and this rarely happens above 3 players as everyone is focusing on their individual success or the monster next to them).
Mage Wars while fun is again, but very dice dependent; no matter how good your spell book is, the dice can hate you/love your opponent and lead to your defeat. all blanks on a heal spell will do that do you. And the number of keywords with more than one implied meaning hurts my head.
Mage Knight is an optimization puzzle. A really big, challenging, complex puzzle with many valid answers. You occasionally get the perfect draw to gain benefit X, but most turns are just trying to figure out how to make the most out of the hand you have using the resources at hand. Mage Knight is very strategic where you can load your deck with cards which support the play style you prefer, and most paths lead to victory.
I suggest watching a walk through and then reading a few play by forums on the boards; there are many great game moderators on these forums and you can read the card text for all the base set cards in the files section (there is also an unofficial wiki with full game text).
I love Mage Knight because I feel like I'm in control of the situation as I can always choose another path. It plays great solo and the rules are summarized on the back page of the rule books including monster distributions and powers for easy reference. Site text is all on a summary card. And the walk through does a good job of only introducing the rules you need at the moment.
