Long Term Replayability:
Skill Factor:
This is all skill. Not DEEP skill mind you - it's a party guessing game - but it's still player skill.
Modes: Co-op
Players: 2-Lots
With a couple: Can still be fun, but it's really meant as a group party game.
Play Time: 15-20 minutes
Difficulty: No idea how to rate this as it's so player dependent. I'd say medium-ish. You could always add or subtract cards from the pile to make it easier or harder.
Individual/Group Play: Complete individuality. This is entirely a communication game.
Mini-Review
Co-op Cranium party game? Say what? Yep, I'm not kidding. And it's actually pretty fun.
Gameplays is very simple. Each player has a hand of cards, each showing a person, place or thing. On your turn, you roll the die to decide which activity you need to use to get the rest of the team to guess one of your cards. There's drawing, charades (with sound effects) and two word clue options.
The team plays against a timer. For a relaxed game, you only start and stop the timer while someone is giving clues. For a panicked frenzy, the timer runs constantly.
Everyone needs to get rid of their cards in hand and all the cards in a draw pile before the timer runs out. You can give up on a card if no one is getting it, but then you need to add a penalty card to the draw pile.
It's simple, it's light, it's a lot of fun with a high energy crowd. It keeps everyone involved all the time, and gives you a chance to be creative as you give clues. It's also a good game for playing with a few people around who aren't quite into the game; they can still guess without needing to give clues and take turns.
Oh, and if someone wants to join in mid-game? Deal them a few cards! Someone needs to leave? Put their cards on the pile.
Get if for:
- A co-op party game.
- Stretching some creative brain muscles.
- Large groups.
- Casual gamer groups.
- Keeping everyone playing and involved all the time.

A random monster bash with Cthlhuhoid monsters. There's some sort of premise about dead souls having to confront the horrors they encountered in life to escape the underworld, or something like that. Basically, you set up a little board and move around it trying to defeat monsters and monster generators.
There's some nice touches in the forms of leveling up characters and having different skills for different characters.
While it claims co-op play, it's not really a co-op; in the normal, competitive, mode, the opponent on your left controls the monsters. This has no replacement in co-op or solo play, so you just have to try to play both sides.
I wouldn't mind giving this another try, but it didn't impresss us enough to bring it readily back to the table.

Mini-Review
The theme is going to be really strange if you haven't had the Dragonriders of Pern series! Players take to the air on dragons, to burn down falling Thread - a deadly parasite from another planet.
Borderline co-op. Normal play has you competing for points, but you can also just play to stop all the falling thread.
The game consists of two books. One player takes each book. Your book shows a dragon-saddle view from your dragon. You'll see both your wingmate (the other player) and a tangle of thread. You both pick a maneuver, and the combined results has you turn to a new page showing the results of the maneuver. Maneuver well, and you can line up the thread and burn it. Maneuver really bad and you can get burned by thread or accidentally scorch your wingmate!
There's a threadfall track that decreases each turn and resets when you flame a piece of thread; go too many turns without flaming a piece, and the thread hits the ground. Too many hit and you lose.
There's a pattern to how all this works. In fact, there's a "spoiler" section in the back of the books that explain this. DON'T read the spoiler. It kind of ruins the game (I was a kid back when I first had these, I was impatient, I eventually read the spoiler).
Not much to it, and the game gets way less interesting once you know the pattern. It is very portable, and it has a campaign where you can level up and learn new maneuvers, which is kind of cool. The campaign even takes into account the different kinds of dragons.
Get if for:
- Playing with huge fans of the Pern series.
- A highly portable co-op.
- Campaign play.

With a couple: Works poorly. One character each is a bit dull (and the game doesn't scale well). Two characters each is hard to manage due to the huge glut of cards.
Play Time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Depends on scenario and character count. Usually easy with 4 characters. Some scenarios are virtually impossible (and not in a good way) with 2 characters.
Individual/Group Play: Not really enough skill to matter.
Mini-Review
A fast paced co-op dungeoncrawl with tons of cool minis. This sounds so awesome. How could it go so wrong?
The rulebook is a mess, the scenario book even more of a mess. Be prepared to have no idea how to play some scenarios. If you have no idea what to do with a component, it's probably just not used in this scenario. Probably. Or they just missed explaining it. Or you missed it in the rules and should probably go back and re-read. How do you know which situation is which? Beats me!
You control a party of adventurers battling against the forces of a vampire lord in a variety of scenarios. You can choose from 5 different heroes, each with different abilities. Like, one character will have a +7 to hit instead of a +6 to hit. Ok, ok, they do each have some unique abilities, but overall they wind up feeling pretty much the same after a few plays.
You wander through the dungeon in a mostly random manner; it doesn't matter which way you go (usually), you'll find the end eventually. Along the way, you meet monsters. Monsters attack you (roll a die) and then you attack them (roll a die). Monsters have a 'script' on their cards that they follow. While there's some interesting variety (spiders web you, burning skeletons attack everyone in a room, etc), they tend to show up, attack and die almost immediately. This wound up feeling to us like "draw a card, see how many hit points you lose".
To keep time pressure on, if you don't explore, you draw an Event card. If you DO explore, about half the time you draw an Event card anyway. The Event cards are, for the most part, "draw a card, see how many hit points you lose."
We loved this for a few plays. We really did. Our excitement was very high. But the illusion of anything interesting going on dropped off very fast. Draw a card, see how many hit points you lose. Roll to hit. Draw a card, see how many hit points you lose. Roll to hit. Over and over.
Get if for:
- The minis. Pretty much worth it if you want a bunch of fantasy minis even if you then toss the rest of the game in the trash. Just look at that Dracoliche!
- A quick playing dungeon crawl.
- A game that's easy to get new players into the action on once you know how to play.
- Some good excitement for a few plays.
Avoid it if:
- You try the following exercise and shudder:
1) Draw a card and see how many hit points you lose.
2) Roll a die.
3) Repeat steps 1-2 ten times in a row.
- You want to make sense out of your rules.
- You want interesting, meaningful choices in gamplay.

Draw a card, see how many hit points you lose. Roll to hit. Draw a card, see how many hit points you lose. Roll to hit. Over and over. Wrath was just more of the same. However, I suspect we would not have liked it as much as Ravenloft even had we not already gotten bored of the game.
What it does different from Ravenloft:
- The rulebook is better. In fact, some clarifications in the rulebook only apply to Ravenloft. This in itself may be a little confusing.
- The treasures are much more interesting. In fact, we felt a bit overloaded on treasures in Ashardalon!
- Wrath has "campaign" play. Campaigns consist of playing the same scenario with a different random monster at the end over and over, with a few upgrades carrying over between games. There's a short campaign and a long campaign. We could barely make it through (interest wise) the short campaign, and the long one looks almost exactly the same, but longer.
- There are some doors and "long passages" to make exploring a bit more interesting. We never opened a door while playing.
- The scenarios are a bit better explained than Ravenloft. Apparently, having decided that clearly explaining scenarios was a weakness of theirs, all the scenarios in Wrath are virtually identical, aside from a card you draw at the end to determine exactly which boss monster you meet.
- They have some new traps in the event cards that take you out of the game until you roll a 10+ on a D20. In a 4-5 player game, since players may only get 4-5 turns each, that can easily be "out for the rest of the game".[/color]

Mini-Review
Out-roll Cthulhu!
Elder Sign is the mini die rolling version of Arkham Horror. Apparently, the entire game takes place in one museum. Having every mythos monster around wind up in one city at the same time was odd. Having them all in one museum is the sort of thematic bit it's better to just not think about.
I've seen this compared to Yahtzee, or called a 'dice' game. Its not. Those type of comparisions assume that you will roll the dice, and then try to figure how to use your roll. Most gamery dice games, such as Alien Frontiers or King of Tokyo, will offer multiple possibilities for what you want on a given turn and how you will use your roll.
While Elder Sign LOOKS like those of type of games, the dice are really just a convoluted task resolution. You pick an adventure, and roll to see if you can resolve that adventure. Choices about how to use your dice are usually very straightforward.
You have a bunch of cards to improve your rolls, but most just give you an extra die.
The risk-reward balance on the cards isn't real strong, so usually it's obvious which adventure to undertake.
Overall, this is a choice-weak kind of mindless game. At 15 or 20 minutes, I'd enjoy this as a quick filler a lot. But it runs an hour or more, and for me it stretches its welcome at that length. There's just not enough there to justify that kind of time.
The game is very easy as is. Given the randomness, I don't mind that, but it's a common complaint.
A lot of fan effort has gone into making the game harder. Most of the ideas involve removing choices and making the game longer as well. Since our complaints are A) Too few choices and B) too long, these have not been good fits for us
It's still one we play every now and then though. The dice are cute.
Get if for:
- Mindless Cthulhu-themed die rolling.
- A game for when you don't want to think.
Avoid it if:

A puzzley fire-fighting game. You draw tiles and place firefighters on them following certain rules. In the co-op game, you need to place all of the firefighters by the end of the game to win.
This is very much a puzzle game, spiced up by the randomness of the tile draw. It's quick and easy to play and good for a filler co-op. The competitive game is also fun, and plays very differently from the co-op game.
The game Vulkan! is posted online and plays with the same components but different rules. Also very much a puzzle game. A completed game of Feurio will leave you with a board all set up for Vulkan, so it works well to play one right after the other.

Lots of people on BGG apparently enjoy playing it cooperatively. I'm not really sure how they do, since the entire game is focused on scoring points, which are meaningless in co-op, and major game elements don't work at all if you aren't competing. In particular, there will often be no reason to fight villains, and you can get crazily powerful just by letting one player get strong combos without anyone else competing for the cards.
If you want to just toss out hero cards, say "Cool, we're playing a co-op with Wolverine!" and not stress too much about it, by all means go for it.

Addictive?
Long Term Replayability:

Skill Factor: Low, though there's one key thing to figure out each quest. Well, more "add up" that "figure out".
Modes: Co-op
Players: 2-4
With a couple: Plays normally.
Play Time: 1 - 1.5 hours.
Difficulty: Low at first, even lower if you look at the events or are replaying a scenario.
Individual/Group Play: Fairly group play oriented.
Mini-Review
Andor sets you on a variety of fantasy quests. In typical fashion, you each have a character and you travel the land finding important objects and fighting monsters. The game is scenario driven, with 5 included scenarios. Each scenario is represented by a few cards that are stacked in order, so that you proceed through the stack as the game progresses.
The basic mechanics are interesting, and revolve around managing actions. There's not a lot of variety (only a few enemies, who aren't very distinctive, and only a few items).
However, there's one key mechanic in this game that really hurt our opinion of it. There are two normal conditions for losing a game; if too many monsters reach the castle, or if time runs out. However, every time you defeat a monster, time advances by one day. Defeating a monster is basically the WORST thing that can happen to you in the game. Aside from being incredibly unthematic, it also means that the game looks "tense", but the tension is entirely artificial - the monsters "score points" because you beat them! The game then centers around counting up and determining the number of monsters you can safely beat. Not only isn't this terribly exciting, but it means that in a game where maybe 80% of the mechanics focus on combat, each hero may only fight once or twice in a game.
On top of that, the other main threat comes in the form of trial-and-error gameplay. You draw a card and it says "Oh, because you increased your strength too much, you LOSE!". When strength is normally good and you had no prior way of knowing that it would be bad in this scenario. Once you know about a trial-and-error element, you'll never do that again.
If neither of those elements bother you, the rest of the game is quite enjoyable.
Get if for:
- Nice components and art.
- Excellent "learn as you play" teaching setup.
- Variety of scenarios.

Addictive? ? Tough to rate - we played through all the scenarios, but we were forcing ourselves to finish it towards the end.
Long Term Replayability:

Skill Factor: Low
Modes: Co-op.*
- Except for one scenario which has a badly implemented enemy player.
Players: 1-4**
** Except for one scenario which is 3 player only, and one which is effectively 3 player only.
With a couple: You usually have to play multiple characters. Sometimes the characters don't divide evenly. Once, one of you has to play two characters with the other plays a sort-of enemy,
Play Time: 1/2 hour - 2 hours; depends on scenario.
Difficulty: Usually easy. We played the whole campaign with a variant that made it harder; this was accidental at first, but we just stuck with it even after realizing the mistake.
Individual/Group Play: Leans toward group play. Requires group decision making in places since the entire group must take one path.
Mini-Review
A group of heroes turns into mice to thwart the plot of an evil witch. (It kind of almost makes sense...sorta. If you squint.
)
M&M is a scenario based dungeon crawl game. You set up a scenario, and move your mice through the castle fighting roaches and rat guards. Usually on a turn you'll just attack a foe and maybe move around a little. Spice comes in the form of special abilities, which cost cheese to activate. You can also spend cheese to gain new abilities.
I think this game is oriented towards kid and family play, though I have some doubts at kids being able to figure out the scenario setup.
There's a story that consists of paragraph blocks read at the start and end of each scenario. It has a few huge plot gaps that I think even kids will question. It also does some silly things like having a scenario with only two mice, one of which MUST be Collin on it (while the other four mice are going off on a different quest) and then giving flavor text in the scenario to Filch and Tilda. Note that Filch and Tilda cannot possibly both be along on this quest.
Mice can add new abilities and carry over one piece of treasure from each quest, so you get to level up a bit, but not too much. If you want to drop an inexperienced mouse into a quest, they'll be a little behind, but not much. Since abilities all require cheese to activate, having more of them just makes you a little more flexible. This also means that, if for some reason you don't want to play the campaign, you can play any scenario with starting mice and not have too many problems.
On the flip side, this means you never really get to improve your character too much, and while there are tons of items to find you'll probably be keeping the same one for a given mouse for most of the campaign.
Scenarios often have specific "required" mice, and vary in number of mice used. Since we didn't just pick our mice and play through the campaign, this really created a lack of attachment. You don't have your character. You've just got whatever mouse you happened to get assigned at the time. While a campaign dungeon crawl is normally really appealling to us, this lack of investment in our characters was quite damaging to our interest.
I suspect many players are really going to enjoy this game, liking the cute minis and the simple gameplay. There's certainly some things going for it. Exploring the castle is clever. You occasionally get a brancing path that affects later stories in a minimal way. The mice have fairly distinctive and interesting abilities.
However, we found it repetitive and dull. There's not much for variety of enemies. You spend most of your turns taking the same action. There's special items (like the fork) that seem like cool ideas, but are almost never useful in practice (and they don't bother to give you a rules card for them, so you keep having to look them up).
It's often very hard to tell which spaces are supposed to connect, leading to have to measure the distance between spaces (it's a rule) with the base of a figure, and usually finding that it's just on the edge and you have no clue.
Scenarios often involve special rules that come into play in certain rooms, with no reminder on the board. You have to keep looking things up in the scenario book. Scenario cards or something would have worked much better.
We also got very confused by a tile-flipping rule that's both non-intuitive, and not used until about 5 scenarios in. If you're playing, say, one scenario a week, good luck remembering a strange rule that you read 5 weeks ago and haven't had to use since then.
There's also a hideously badly designed scenario which is only for 3 players (oh, you were playing through the campaign with a group of 4? Well, screw you!) and has one player playing an 'NPC' that switches sides based on conditions. This is horrendously implemented. You can probably screw the other players over immensely if you really want to, but you could just as easily always play on their side even when you "flipped allegiances" and trust them to flip you back, since it's within player control.
As a final personal note, while the two (out of 6) female characters are fine, they are both clearly bit characters in all the flavor and story. Only once is one a required character, and she's there to be a helpless damsel in distress who literally stays stuck in one room all game.
Get if for:
- Cute mice and insect minis.
- Simple dungeon crawl gameplay.
- Story driven gameplay, if you consider reading chunks of mostly meaningless flavor text for a "story" that you don't really interact with a good thing.
Avoid it if:
- You enjoy variety in your decisions.
- You feel like you should be attached to a character in a pseudo-rpg.
- You don't like having to constantly reference a scenario book.

ONE PLAY MINI REVIEW
Our rating:

Modes: Co-op, Solo
Players: 3-5
With a couple: Listed for 3+ only, so you would need to play 2 players each.
Play Time: Unknown. Listed at 30 minutes.
Difficulty: Moderate; variants can increase the difficulty.
Individual/Group Play: Mixed, slighlty more individual play.
Quick Overview Aliens are attacking your station! Play weapons of the right color to destroy them. You can play combos of weapons to get to keep some of the cards you played, so there's an advantage to saving up. You can also upgrade your station to be able to play more cards and trade cards with the other players. Last long enough and you enter a fight with the alien boss.
High luck game of card drawing and hoping you get your upgrades early in the deck. Does maintain a feel of struggling against formidable odds.
Why we didn't buy it: Highly luck driven gameplay that didn't provide much excitement or an interesting challenge.

Long Term Replayability:
Skill Factor:
Modes: Co-op, Solo
Players: 1-2
With a couple: Seems designed for 2 players!
Play Time: 20-30 minutes
Difficulty: Medium. Adding different (included) expansions changes up the challenge.
Individual/Group Play: Requires individualality If you play with the 'no communication' rule, which I highly recommend.
Mini-Review
I guess it makes sense that a game about dreams and nightmares is a little odd.
A small card game. You need to unlock four doors (or four doors each in a 2 player game) by playing sets of color matching cards with different symbols, or using keys to shortcut the process. You lose if the deck of cards runs out, so you need to manage your cards very carefully.
In a two player game, you have a few cards in hand and a few cards on the table face up in a "shared hand" that either player can use.
Gameplay is pretty simple; you play a card, or you swap a card with the shared hand.
The game suggests a variant where you cannot talk with the other player. I highly recommend this variant. It makes for a very interesting game; you need to help your partner by getting them cards they need, but you can't directly talk about it so you need to figure out what they want by their actions.
The game comes with several "expansions"; additional cards that you can add into the game, each with their own rules and changes. Each expansions offers both additional challenges and additional tools to overcome the challenges. Good for long-term replay value. Bad because we can never remember how the game works, and just end up playing the base game whenver we go back to it.
Get if for:
- Simple and light gamplay.
- A good travl co-op; portable and requiring little play space.
- A tricky communication challenge.
- A pleasantly surreal theme.
Avoid it if:
- You want a lot of depth or rules.
- You have a hard time remembering lots of variants.
